By Weddle & Sons

Why Solar Panels?

Solar panels are a cost-effective, easy way to reduce your utility bills, increase your energy independence, and reduce your carbon footprint. As energy prices continue to climb, Weddle and Sons wants to make sure our roofing customers have access to premium solar panel brands installed by experienced, dedicated roofers.

The Weddle and Sons Advantage

Weddle and Sons offers advantages and benefits that other solar panel installers just can't match. We leverage our 20 years of roofing experience to make sure that your solar panels are not only installed to produce as much energy as possible, but also to prevent the compromise of the structural integrity of your roof.

Our robust customer service department is also second-to-none, so should you have questions or concerns during or after your solar panel installation, you can trust that we'll still be there to keep you informed and resolve any concerns that you may have.

Tier 1 Solar Panels

Weddle and Sons only uses Tier 1 solar panels. The reason why is because Tier 1 solar panels are built to higher standards of quality, so they will last longer and capture sunlight more efficiently compared to Tier 2 or Tier 3 panels.

Combining the best, most reliable products with the best, most reliable installation is why so many customers choose Weddle and Sons for their solar panel needs.

Solar Panel FAQs

  • There are a number of choices for solar panel installers in Kansas. Usually, you're choosing between dedicated solar panel installers, who only install solar panels, and roofers who install solar panels as part of other offerings, like Weddle and Sons.

  • The size of the kilowatt system an average home in Kansas needs will vary a lot due to several factors. Some factors that will affect the size of the kilowatt system you need for your home include:

    • The size of your home (large homes usually need bigger kilowatt systems)

    • Specific energy needs (the more energy you use, the bigger kilowatt system you need)

    • Energy goals (if you want to be independent from the grid or participate in net-metering, you need a larger kilowatt system).

Since the energy needs of each home are different, Weddle and Sons performs an energy audit for each client looking to get solar panels. This allows us to see how much electricity you use, and allows our customers to pick a kilowatt system based on how independent they want to be from the electrical grid.

  • The amount of solar panels you'll need in Kansas are more tied to your specific energy needs. However, Kansas weather is generally favorable for the production of solar energy, so some houses may be able to meet their energy goals with fewer panels, compared to other locations.

You won't know how many solar panels you need for sure until your chosen installer performs an energy audit, a service that Weddle and Sons provides.

  • The two primary kinds of solar panels you'll choose between will be monocrystalline and polycrystalline. Monocrystalline panels are more expensive upfront, but are more efficient at converting solar energy to electricity. Polycrystalline panels are less expensive upfront, but are less efficient at converting solar energy to electricity.

In general, monocrystalline panels will be most cost-effective in the long-term, which is why Weddle and Sons exclusively installs monocrystalline panels.

  • Solar panels are a great match for the climate in Nebraska, but whether you should get panels depends on your personal goals. Somethings to consider are:

    • How long do you plan to live in your Nebraska home? If you plan on moving within the next few years, you may not want to make a long-term investment in it like solar panels.

    • Do you want to become more energy independent? If you don't want to rely on the grid (or at least not only on the grid), then solar panels can help you achieve that goal.

    • Do you want to lower your energy costs? If you make the long-term investment of solar panels, you can lower your energy costs with solar panels.

  • You won't know for sure until your chosen solar roof installer examines your roof. Generally, simple roofs with standard grades of decline are the best candidates for solar panels. However, experienced installers, like Weddle and Sons, may be able to install solar panels on roofs that other, less experienced companies may pass on.

  • Solar panels are extremely reliable, and regularly last 25 years or more. In fact, most service warranties for solar panels will be at least 20-25 years, since it's common for panels to last even longer than that.

  • If you're looking to choose a solar panel installer in Kansas City, you want to make sure they're a good match for your specific needs. You'll want to consider:

    • If they carry your preferred type of solar panel (monocrystalline vs polycrystalline)

    • Their experience (the newer the company, the higher the risk)

    • Their expertise (for example, roofers tend to provide better quality installs due to knowing how to navigate difficult roofs and to appropriately penetrate the roof for panel installation)

Make sure your chosen solar panel installer can meet your needs and expectations of quality before you commit to new panels.

  • Weddle and Sons installs residential solar panels in all of our market territory, including Manhattan, Kansas City, Denver, and Lincoln.

  • Similarly to residential solar panels, Weddle and Sons installs commercial solar panels in all of our market territory, including Manhattan, Kansas City, Denver, and Lincoln.

  • The range of solar panel pricing in Kansas City is huge. There are some important factors that will impact your overall pricing, including:

    • The brand of solar panel

    • The kind of solar panel (monocrystalline vs polycrystalline)

    • Who installs your solar panels

    • The size of kilowatt system you install

  • Currently, the federal government offers a 30% tax rebate on eligible solar panel costs, including the actual panels, installation costs, and batteries. In addition, you may be eligible for:

    • Rebates from your utility company

    • State rebates

    • State tax credits

Please consult your tax preparer for more information on receiving tax rebates related to solar panels.

  • Batteries for solar panels offer homeowners the ability to be truly independent from the electrical grid or to more easily participate in net metering (where available). Whether or not it's worth it is up to you, though you should keep in mind that batteries are often eligible for the same federal tax credit that solar panels are.

  • Whether you can be truly off-the-grid with solar panels depends on where you live and what kind of solar panel system you buy. Generally, in order to truly be off-the-grid, you need to:

    • Live in an area that allows you to be disconnected from the electric grid

    • Have a system with a high enough kilowatt capacity to meet your energy needs

    • Have a solar energy battery that you can draw power from during the night and especially cloudy days
